PULLING IT ALL TOGETHER

I am approaching my 55th year of life and probably have had well over 100 adult medical visits to deal with one issue or the other. As a health advocate, I emphasize the importance of individuals keeping adequate records as they relate to their medical care, keeping a journal of health visits, keeping a list of their medications, keeping dates of their recent immunizations, x-rays, lab test, etc..and I realize this in itself can be a tedious task. I think just how big my folder would be if I had done this for all my adult life. I would need a file folder on wheels and an elaborate filing system to find anything.
Several weeks ago I came across a device that enables you to pull all that information together electronically. Having an electronic personal health record can not only save your life in a situation where you are not able to speak for yourself, but it is a way to coordinate yours and your family's health care in a way never that could be done before.
Imagine being a parent and having the ability to keep up with all the records of your children's health care from infancy to adulthood and being able to turn over their device to them to continue on into their senior years. No more guess work for you or them when they had this or that...it is all in their device.
Imagine being a caregiver of an aging parent who lives miles away and you worry about what really is happening on their medical visits since you are not able to be there or what would happen if they take ill and cannot speak for themselves...with their electronic personal medical health device there is no more worry as to how would the emergency services personnel know who to call, what are their medication, who is there doctor, their advance directive information, etc...it is all there in the device.
With this device...it is almost the sky is the limit as to what information can be entered to manage your health care. There is no monthly cost, the information is secure (unlike the online electronic health record programs), it is easily recognizable by EMS personnel and it's affordable.
