Just recently someone asked me a question that frankly I had no idea of the answer...did I receive the Swine Flu vaccine during the massive immunization campaign in 1976 when five soldiers at Ft. Dix died from the flu. There are vague memories of that season because there was so much controversy over to get the shot or not get the shot. Rumors raged that the shot itself were the cause of some deaths following immunization as well as people developing Guillain-Barre' Syndrome, a disorder affecting the nervous system, which can lead to paralysis and/or death.
I am sure that I was like many people hesitant about the vaccine but I also did work at the time in a pediatric hospital so it is possible that I did get that immunization...or was that the year that I decided that I was not getting a flu shot and ended up hospitalized for five days...it is still a big blur in time.
Had I had a device like the electronic personal health record, I would not be sitting here wondering, I would know without a doubt what immunization I did or did not get over my lifetime. Unfortunately, this device was not available during that era...but it is today.
Every person should consider the many benefits of having their own electrionic PHR as well as one for every member in their household. No more guessing...have everything in the palm of your hand (yes...it is small, easy to manage, and affordable).
